Swinburne University of Technology Overview

Swinburne University of Technology was founded in 1908 and gained university status in 1992. As a globally recognised university, the Swinburne University is well known for its high-quality of research and innovation, particularly in physics, astronomy, engineering, computer science, information technology, materials science, design and innovation, health science, mental health and neuroscience.

As a dual sector university providing both higher education and Pathways and Vocational Education (PAVE), Swinburne University of Technology offers a broader range of courses for international students to choose from, either PAVE or higher education programs. With a strong connection and collaboration with industrial partners, the university has equipped students with hands-on experience, helping them create real impact on the community and to the world.

Swinburne University of Technology main campuses are located at Hawthorn, Croydon and Wantirna, the eastern suburbs of Melbourne. However, the university operation is now beyond Australia, with a fourth campus in Sarawak, Malaysia, one new facility in Vietnam offering select Swinburne courses and one office in China.

Swinburne Professional Degrees

Swinburne University of Technology has a unique program called Swinburne Professional Degree that offers a career guarantee for students who are completing Year 12 in Australia.

Swinburne Professional Degrees feature a mandatory 12-month placement, which is normally undertaken in Year 3 of the degree. Student will be paid during placement, receive academic credit, and gain real-industry experience that will help them be job-ready when they graduate.

To enroll in a Professional Degree, students are required to complete the Victoria Certificate of Education (VCE) or equivalent Australian Year 12 program and have the relevant ATAR entry score. This program normally requires a higher ATAR for entry than a standard bachelor’s degree; for example, ATAR requirement for the Bachelor of Computer Science (Professional) is ATAR 80 while that for Bachelor of Computer Science is ATAR 60 only.

Swinburne University of Technology Entry Requirements for International Students

  • English Requirement: To be eligible for a higher education course at Swinburne University, international students must achieve a minimum IELTS score of 6.0, with no individual band score below 6.0.
  • Academic Requirement: Normally, applicants are required to have completed Year 12 or equivalent in order to enroll in an undergraduate program. For the postgraduate program, the applicants need to obtain a bachelor’s degree or international equivalent. The minimum academic record varies, depending on each course.

Swinburne International Scholarship

The Swinburne International Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship, offering 20% fee reduction of tuition fee. The scholarship is available to international students who commence an intake of either an undergraduate or postgraduate course at Swinburne for the first time from June 2024 to December 2024.

Please note that this scholarship does not apply to some certain courses, such as Bachelor of Nursing, Bachelor of Aviation and Piloting, Bachelor of Aviation and Piloting + Bachelor of Business (double degree), one-year honour degree, Master of Dietetics, Master of Physiotherapy, and Master of Occupational Therapy.

Swinburne International Pathway Scholarship

The Swinburne International Pathway Scholarship is a merit-based scholarship, offering a discount of AUD2,500 for Onshore and China students, and a AUD3,000 for students from the rest of countries. This scholarship is available to international students who commence a pathway intake in Foundation, UniLink Diploma or Postgraduate Qualifying course at Swinburne Melbourne campus for the first time in June till December 2024.

If you enroll in the Pathway Packaged COE with commencing intake in June 2024 and beyond, you will be eligible for a 20% undergraduate or postgraduate scholarship upon successful completion of the Pathway program, with the principle programs commencing in future intakes.

ELICOS Scholarship

This scholarship offers a refund of up to 10 weeks of ELICOS tuition fee (up to AUD4,800) to international students who are applying for an English course plus an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.
