Introduction
In the heart of Australia’s vibrant educational landscape, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) stands as a beacon of innovation and excellence, offering a plethora of opportunities for international students. Among these, the QUT International Merit Scholarship (IMS) and the Real World International Scholarship (RWS) shine brightly, providing promising students from across the globe a chance to pursue their academic dreams with financial support.
SOL Education, as your trusted education consultant, is here to guide you through the intricacies of these scholarships, ensuring you understand how to unlock these fantastic opportunities.
QUT International Merit Scholarship (IMS)
Scholarship Benefits
The IMS offers a generous financial aid package to international students enrolling in non-Health Faculty Courses, covering 25% of tuition fees for the first two semesters. Furthermore, this scholarship continues to offer a 25% tuition fee waiver for subsequent semesters, provided the students meet ongoing academic conditions. However, for those enrolling in Health Faculty Courses, the scholarship covers 25% of tuition fees for the first two semesters without an ongoing scholarship provision.
Eligibility Criteria
QUT extends the IMS to students of all nationalities, except for those from South Asia and the Middle East. The scholarship spans a wide range of courses, and candidates are automatically assessed upon application, meaning no separate application is needed for the scholarship.
Minimum Academic Requirements for Undergraduate Courses
- ATAR: 90 (adjusted)
- IB (Australia): 34 (adjusted)
- IB (overseas): 32 (adjusted)
- GCE A levels: 10 A level points from best 3 academic subjects
- Foundation: GPA 5.5/7 (4=pass)
- Diploma/Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree: GPA 5.5/7 (4=pass) and GPA 5.0/7 (4=pass) respectively

Real World International Scholarship (RWS)
Scholarship Benefits
The RWS, much like the IMS, offers financial support to international students. For non-Health Faculty Courses, it provides a 20% reduction in tuition fees for the first two semesters, with similar ongoing conditions as the IMS for eligibility and continuation. For Health Faculty Courses, the scholarship offers the same 20% tuition fee reduction for the initial two semesters, with no ongoing scholarship provision.
Eligibility Criteria
The RWS is targeted at a broad international audience with the exclusion of students from South Asia and the Middle East. As with the IMS, eligibility for the RWS spans a diverse range of courses, and candidates are automatically considered for the scholarship when they apply to QUT, simplifying the process for applicants.
Minimum Academic Requirements for Undergraduate Courses
- ATAR: 80 (adjusted)
- IB (Australia): 28.75 (adjusted)
- IB (overseas): 30 (adjusted)
- GCE A levels: 9 A level points from best 3 academic subjects
- Foundation: GPA 5.0/7 (4=pass)
- Diploma/Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree: Varied GPA requirements reflecting a slight reduction compared to the IMS
- Incomplete Australian Bachelor degree: GPA 4.0/7 (4=pass)
Minimum Academic Requirements for Postgraduate Courses
Both scholarships have specific GPA requirements for completed Australian degrees and international qualifications, ensuring a wide range of students can qualify based on their academic achievements. For instance, a completed overseas bachelor degree must meet varying GPA criteria, such as a minimum of 2.5/4 for IMS and slightly different for RWS, highlighting the inclusive and diverse eligibility criteria designed to accommodate a global applicant pool.
How to Apply
The beauty of both scholarships lies in their application process; there is no separate application needed. Eligibility is automatically assessed when you apply to QUT, making it easier for prospective students to be considered for these financial aids.
