The University of Waikato (UoW), located in Hamilton and Tauranga in New Zealand’s heartlands, is one of the leading research institutions in the country. Entry Requirements

English Language Proficiency Requirement:

  • For undergraduate programs, you are required to have at least an IELTS overall score of 6.0 (or equivalent) with no band score under 5.5.
  • For postgraduate programs, you are required to have at least an IELTS overall score of 6.5 (or equivalent) with no band score under 6.0.

Academic Requirement:

  • To enrol in Bachelor programs, you are required to have completed High School qualifications in New Zealand or your home country. The minimum grade required will depend on each study program.
  • To enrol in Taught Maters programs, you need to have completed a bachelor degree or postgraduate diploma from New Zealand or an acceptable equivalent oversea qualification.  
  • To enrol in Research Maters programs, you must have completed a bachelor honours degree or postgraduate diploma from New Zealand or an acceptable equivalent overseas qualification. 

Tuition Fee for International Students

The tuition fees for international students vary, depending on courses and the study level.  

  • Bachelor Programs: range from NZ$29,425 – NZ$38,305 per year 
  • Master Programs: range from NZ$35,900 – NZ$ $44,425 per year

Scholarships for International Students

Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarship

Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship is to attract high achieving international students who are new to studying at the University of Waikato. The scholarship has a value from NZ$2,500 to NZ$15,000, depending on awardees’ GPA records, intended study programme and funding availability. University of Waikato Alumni Scholarship

The University of Waikato Alumni Scholarship, valued at up to NZD 10,000, is designed to support UoW alumni in pursuing a higher qualification or a new field of study at this university. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be 25 years or older and have completed their previous study at the University of Waikato at least two years prior. International Entrance Scholarship for School Leavers

University of Waikato International Entrance Scholarship for School Leavers 

The University of Waikato International Entrance Scholarship for School Leavers, valued at NZD 15,000, aims to attract international students who have completed Year 13 (Level 2 or 3, or equivalent) at a New Zealand high school in 2024 and intend to study at UoW in Semester A, 2025. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must enroll as full-time students for the first time in one of the bachelor’s programs at UoW. GEMS Scholarship

University of Waikato International Entrance Scholarship for School Leavers 

The University of Waikato GEMS Scholarship is designed to support international students who are currently studying at a school in the GEMS network or who have graduated from a GEMS school within 12 months, and apply to a bachelor’s program at UoA for the first time. There will be 3 scholarships per year and each scholarship offers up to NZ10,000 to eligible students.
