New Zealand Student Visa application fee varies on: your citizenship, where you are applying from, and how you submit your documents.

Most International students applying online will be charged NZD $430. 

Working on a Student Visa

Reasons for Student Visa Rejection?

The most frequent problems come from visa denial.

  • Doubtful Bona Fide Intentions: Demonstrate the goal of a bonafide study and select the course according to the study plan through which your intentions can be achieved. 
  • Shooting for the sky in your study plan: Make sure that you pick a course that is relevant to your academic or professional background. 
  • Applicants who have not taken enough English Language Proficiency Applicants are required to meet the minimum English language requirements for your chosen course.

How much funds should I show when applying for New Zealand student visa

Evidence can include: Proof that you have NZD $20,000 per year of tertiary, English language, or other non-compulsory school study or $1,667 per month if your study will be shorter than 1 year.  

Do I need to purchase a medical insurance if I study in New Zealand

Yes, You must maintain your medical and travel insurance policy while you’re studying in New Zealand, from the time you enrol until your visa expires. 

What kind of work rights do international students in New Zealand get ?

 You may be allowed to work part-time for up to 20 hours a week and full-time during all scheduled holidays and/or during the Christmas and New Year holiday period.

 

Does NZ check for good character standing when applying for a student visa?

You may need to provide police certificates as proof of your good character. 

If you are aged 17 and over, and will stay in New Zealand for more than 24 months (this includes any time you have already spent in New Zealand), you must provide police certificates from: 

  • your country(s) of citizenship 
  • any country(s) you’ve spent more than 5 years in since turning 17. 

You do not need to provide police certificates if: 

  • you have provided them to us with an earlier visa application, and they were issued in the previous 36 months, or 
  • you are under 20 years of age and have held a student visa (or consecutive student visas) on and since the date you turned 17 and are applying for a further student visa.
