The University of Otago, established in 1869, is the oldest university in New Zealand, renowned for its strong reputation in research and high-quality education, particularly in Medicine and Dentistry. It is the only university in New Zealand that offers dentistry courses and one of only two universities in the country to offer medicine courses.

University of Otago Global Scholarships

About the scholarship
University of Otago Global Scholarships, valued at up to NZ$15,000, is designed to support international students from China, Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam.
Eligibility

To be qualified for this scholarship, you must:  

  • Enroll fulltime in an undergraduate at University of Otago 
  • Study on campus throughout the duration of the study 
  • Be a citizen of one of the following countries: China (including Hong Kong and Macau), Indonesia, India, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand and Vietnam

How to apply

  • This scholarship is open on 1 May each year and close on 10 Dec for Semester 1 and 30 Apr for Semester 2.  
  • The applicants must indicate their interest for this scholarship in their study application via Student Management System (eVision) 
  • Scholarship criteria: will be based on academic excellence records 

Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships for International Students

About the scholarship
Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarships for International Students, valued at up to NZ$10,000, is designed to recognise high achieving international students who enroll full-time in a program at University of Otago. This scholarship will be assessed based on academic potential and is for students studying on campus only.

Eligibility

Application for this Entrance Scholarship is open to all international students who:

  • Have completed secondary (high) school or another approved institution that grants University Entrance, either overseas or within New Zealand.
  • Are intending to enroll or have enrolled in full-time degree-level, undergraduate study at the University of Otago | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka.

Specific Eligibility Criteria for this Scholarship

In addition to the above eligibility criteria, applicants must:

  • Intend to study at the University of Otago | Ōtākou Whakaihu Waka from 100-level (first year) through to degree attainment.
  • Study on campus throughout the duration of their studies.

University of Otago International Partnership Scholarship

University of Otago International Partnership Scholarship is designed to support international students who are applying to partnership study programs between University of Otago and its recognised partners (e.g., 2+2, credit recognition). The scholarship has a value of up to NZ$10,000 and the students must undertake their study at University of Otago for at least four semesters to be eligible for this scholarship.  

University of Otago Coursework Master's Scholarship

University of Otago Coursework Master’s Scholarship, valued up to NZ$10,000, is designed to support international students who will undertake a coursework master’s degree (except for MBA program) at University of Otago. The applicants’ academic record will be taken into account when the scholarship committee selects the right awardees for this scholarship.
