Vice Chancellor's International Excellence Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The Vice Chancellor’s International Excellence Scholarship is designed to attract high-achieving international students who are new to studying at the University of Waikato (UoW). The scholarship has a value ranging from NZ$2,500 to NZ$15,000, depending on awardees’ GPA records, intended study program, and funding availability.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Enrol in a bachelor’s degree at UoW for the first time.
  • Study as a full-time student, on a face-to-face basis. Online study mode does not qualify for this scholarship.
  • Have a GPA of at least B+ in the previous qualification.
  • The scholarship is open for the following courses: Arts, Business/Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Education, Health, Engineering, Law, Māori & Indigenous Studies, Science, Social Sciences.

How to Apply

  • First, students must complete the admissions process to apply to an undergraduate course at UoW.
  • After having a university account, students can apply for this scholarship online via “MyWaikato.”
  • The scholarship committee will rely on academic merit and the potential of becoming an ambassador of UoW to select the awardees for this scholarship.

Alumni Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The University of Waikato Alumni Scholarship, valued at up to NZD 10,000, is designed to support UoW alumni in pursuing a higher qualification or a new field of study at this university. To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must be 25 years or older and have completed their previous study at the University of Waikato at least two years prior.

Eligibility

To be qualified for this scholarship, you must:

  • Be a returning UoW student.
  • Haven’t studied at UoW within the past 2 years.
  • Achieve at least a B in the previous study at UoW.
  • Be engaged in UoW as well as the wider community as a volunteer.
  • Be willing to be part of university-led promotion.
  • Be in New Zealand at the time of application.

  • First, students must complete the admissions process to apply to a course at UoW.
  • After having a university account, students can apply for this scholarship online via “MyWaikato.”
  • The scholarship committee will rely on academic merit and how you engage with UoW/community activities to select the awardees for this scholarship.

International Entrance Scholarship for School Leavers

About the Scholarship

The University of Waikato International Entrance Scholarship for School Leavers, valued at up to NZD 15,000, aims to attract international students who have completed Year 13 (Level 2 or 3, or equivalent) at a New Zealand high school in 2024 and intend to study at UoW in Semester A, 2025. The exact amount of scholarship you may receive will depend on your academic records.

  • One-year scholarship: If granted this tenure, you will receive NZ$10,000 for your first year of study.
  • Two-year scholarship: If you have obtained NCEA Level 3 with Merit result, then you will receive an additional amount of NZ$3,000 for the second year of study.
  • Three-year scholarship: If you have obtained NCEA Level 3 with Excellence result, then you will receive an additional amount of NZ$3,000 for the second year of study and NZ$2,000 for the third year of study.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must:

  • Enroll as full-time students for a bachelor’s degree for the first time at UoW.
  • Enroll in one of the following courses: Arts, Business/Management, Computer Science, Mathematics, Education, Health, Engineering, Law, Māori & Indigenous Studies, Science, Social Sciences.
  • Have completed NCEA Level 3 at a New Zealand high school.
  • Students who have completed NCEA Level 2 and received an Offer of Place at UoW may still be considered for this scholarship; however, they must contact the university for further information.

GEMS Scholarship

About the Scholarship

The University of Waikato GEMS Scholarship is designed to support international students who are currently studying at a school in the GEMS network or who have graduated from a GEMS school within 12 months and apply to a bachelor’s program at UoW for the first time. There will be 3 scholarships per year, and each scholarship offers up to NZ$10,000 to eligible students.

Eligibility

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:

  • Currently study at or have graduated from a GEMS school within 12 months.
  • Apply to UoW in an undergraduate program for the first time.
  • Receive an Offer of Place at UoW.

How to Apply

You will be assessed automatically at the time of application for admission at UoW.

The Scholarship Committee will rely on the following criteria to consider the awardees: number of credits enrolled, degree program, funding available, and financial need.
