But, you need to keep in mind the work restrictions when you are under a Student Visa. Here are some few reminders regarding your work conditions:
You cannot work until you have commenced your course in Australia. Once your course has commenced you are permitted to work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight when your course is in session, and unlimited hours when your course is not in session.
Work that is a formal registered part of your course is not included in the limit of 40 hours per fortnight.
Voluntary, unpaid work is not included in the limit of 40 hours per fortnight if it:
- is of benefit to the community
- is for a non-profit organisation
- is genuinely voluntary (that is, you are not paid either in cash or other—board and lodging is acceptable).
If the voluntary work could have been undertaken by an Australian resident who would have received a wage, then this is included in the 40 hours.
If you are a postgraduate research student, you can work a maximum of 40 hours per fortnight during any preliminary courses you undertake and if you have commenced your masters by research or doctoral degree in Australia, there is no limit on the number of hours you may work. Founded in 1997, SEEK has become one of the most popular job and career sites in Australia. The company has grown to cover other markets, including New Zealand, China, Singapore, and Hong Kong.
In the 2013/14 period, SEEK facilitated 26% of all job placements in the country. It typically logs more than 30 million monthly visits. The site accounts for around 70% of all online job ads for the country.
Applicants can use the site to find jobs by salary, location, and classification. Users can also store their resumes, make them visible to employers, and track their applications.
2. GUMTREE
Gumtree is a popular, free classified site with tens of thousands of job classifies across Australia. Industries include health, construction, retail, sales, and much more. There’s no resume-upload function but users can access contact details of employers and contact them directly.
3. AUSTRALIAN JOBSEARCH
Australian JobSearch is a government-funded free database that job seekers can use to find employment opportunities. Users can find jobs by keyword, postcode, location, and occupation. There are also apprenticeships and traineeships available.
4. JOBSEEKERS
Jobseekers is a job board with hundreds of thousands of jobs from websites and newspapers across Australia. The site’s simple interface makes it easy to use; users simply enter a keyword and location to find jobs. However, if you’re looking for a full-service site with resume storage and other features, Jobseeker’s probably not the right site for you.
5. INDEED
Like Jobseeker, Indeed offers users aggregated job ads from around the web. It also accepts job listings, and job seekers can post their resume and allow employers to find their online profiles.
6. LINKEDIN
With more than 313 million users around the globe, LinkedIn is the number one professional-network portal in the world and in Australia. You can use it to build a public or private resume or to connect with colleagues and employers.
7. JOBS.COM.AU
Jobs.com.au has thousands of job listings from across Australia. Users can use the site to save jobs, create job email alerts, manage and build their resume, and of course, to find jobs by geographical location and/or sector. Like other full-featured websites (such as SEEK), users can save multiple versions of their resume and sign up for job alerts to be sent to their email addresses.
