University of Tasmania Overview
The University of Tasmania (UTAS), established in 1890, is one of Australia’s oldest universities with its main campuses in Hobart, Launceston, and Burnie. With its long history, UTAS offers a diverse range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various fields such as science, law, engineering, business, and the arts. The university is particularly renowned for its research leadership in marine and Antarctic studies, environmental sciences and agriculture.
Beyond academics, UTAS has a deep commitment to community engagement and sustainable development. It works closely with local industries and government agencies to ensure that its research and teaching are directly aligned with addressing real-world challenges. International students love UTAS for its small class sizes, personalised learning approach, and access to cutting-edge research facilities, all of which foster innovation and encourage growth for students.
Located in one of the most beautiful and largest islands of Australia, the University of Tasmania (UTAS) is classified as a “regional” university. As a result, international graduates from UTAS are eligible for a one-year extension on their post-study work visa compared to graduates from universities in Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane. This provides an additional benefit for UTAS students.
