About the scholarship
The scholarship for exceptional international students at the University of Sydney is a prestigious award that provides up to $40,000 to support high-achieving international students pursuing coursework studies at the university.
The scholarship is open to international students who have received an unconditional offer of admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree program at the University of Sydney. Candidates must demonstrate academic excellence, as well as leadership potential and a commitment to their community.
The VCIS scholarship is a one-time scholarship that is awarded to students at the commencement of their coursework degree at the University of Sydney. It is not renewable for the following years.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the VCIS scholarship at the University of Sydney, you must meet the following criteria:
- You must be an international student.
- You must have applied for, but not yet commenced, a Bachelor’s degree or a coursework Master’s degree that is a CRICOS registered award program usually delivered onshore at the University of Sydney.
- You must receive an unconditional offer of admission from the university by the relevant close date.
How to apply
The scholarship will be awarded to eligible candidates based on two criteria:
- Academic merit: The selection committee will assess the academic merit of the candidate based on their application for admission to an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree.
- Selection committee: The selection committee will be responsible for nominating the scholarship recipients. The committee will consist of two nominees of the Executive Director, Sydney Future Students and one nominee of the Admissions Office.
Candidates who meet the eligibility criteria will be automatically considered for the scholarship during the admission process. The scholarship recipients will be notified of their award by email.
Sydney International Award
About the scholarship
The Sydney International Student Award is an initiative to celebrate the diversity and talent of the international student community at the University of Sydney. The aim is to support motivated and deserving applicants to achieve their academic and personal goals by providing financial assistance for their studies.
Recipients of the award will be granted a University contribution of 20% of their tuition fee for the entire duration of their course.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this award, you must:
- Be an international student
- Have received an offer of admission into a full-time undergraduate coursework, postgraduate coursework, or postgraduate research degree at the University of Sydney, commencing in 2025
- Not be an Australian or New Zealand citizen or a permanent resident of Australia
- Not have already commenced your degree at the University of Sydney at the time of application. However, you are still eligible if you have completed prior study at the University of Sydney and are commencing a new degree.
- Be a citizen from one of the countries or one of the eligible countries in the regions below:
- Africa
- Central Asia
- East Asia
- South Asia
- Southeast Asia
- Western Asia
- Eastern Europe
- South and Central America
How to apply
As part of your application for the Award, you will be required to submit a personal statement using the template provided. The personal statement should address the following prompts:
- Introduce yourself (maximum 200 words).
- Describe what inspired you to apply to the UoS (maximum 200 words).
- Explain what you hope to achieve with your studies at the University, or how it will help you achieve your career or personal goals (maximum 200 words).
If you are selected to receive the Award, you will be notified via email along with your offer of admission. The Award contribution will be applied to your tuition fees and included in your admissions offer letter.

Sydney International Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarship
About the scholarship
This scholarship is to support exceptional international students from diverse backgrounds to study at the University of Sydney.
The scholarship offers up to 100% tuition fees plus Student Services Amenities Fee for the whole duration of your study.
Eligibility
To qualify for this scholarship, you must:
- Be an international student
- Apply for but not yet commence any undergraduate coursework program at the University of Sydney.
- Must enroll in a full-time study
- Must not have previously studied any territory education
- Please note that this scholarship is not applied for dual degree programs.
