Academic Excellence Scholarships

About the scholarship  

The University of Newcastle has established the Academic Excellence Scholarship to attract high-achieving students to study at the institution. This merit-based scholarship recognises applicants with outstanding academic backgrounds and encourages them to continue striving for excellence. 

The scholarship is valued at AU$10,000 per year, and will be paid in two instalment of $5,000 after the semester 1 and 2 census dates. 

Eligibility  

To apply for this scholarship, you must fulfill the following requirements: 

  • Be starting an eligible undergraduate program at the University of Newcastle as a full-time student 
  • Be an international full-fee paying student. 
  • To maintain this scholarship, you must have achieved at least a GPA of Distinction. 
  • Not to receive another scholarship from the University unless special permission has been granted. 
  • Fulfill all financial obligations of an international full-fee paying student, including paying the full tuition fee and other expenses required for obtaining a student visa, and in the event that you are no longer eligible for the scholarship. 

How to apply 

No application is necessary for this scholarship, as it is automatically awarded to eligible students upon application to the University of Newcastle. 

Students who meet the eligibility criteria will receive notification of their scholarship value along with their offer and must review the full terms and conditions. If they choose not to accept the scholarship, they should inform the University. 

Scholarship offers are granted based on academic merit, determined according to the University’s procedures for calculating ATAR and GPA.

International Excellence Scholarship

About the scholarship  

This scholarship recognises outstanding academic achievements and encourages recipients to continue their academic excellence. The scholarship is worth up to AU$24,000 (AU$6,000 per year) for full-time study load. 

Eligibility  

In order to be considered for this scholarship, the following eligibility criteria must be met: 

  • Must meet the academic requirements and be enrolled in an eligible undergraduate or postgraduate coursework degree priority program  
  • Must be an International full-fee paying student. 
  • Should not be the recipient of any other University scholarship, unless permission for special dispensation has been granted beforehand by the university. 
  • Fulfill all the financial obligations of a full-fee paying international student, including the payment of the full tuition fee and other expenses required for obtaining your student visa. In the event of failure to meet the eligibility requirements for the scholarship, these obligations must still be met. 

How to apply 

No application is necessary for this scholarship, as it is automatically awarded to eligible students upon application to the University of Newcastle.

Newcastle Citizen’s Scholarship

About the scholarship 

This scholarship valued up to AU$6,000 is to support an international student from China, Hong Kong or Taiwan in their studies.  

Eligibility 

In order to be considered for this scholarship, the following eligibility criteria must be met: 

  • Be enrolled in a postgraduate coursework program at the University of Newcastle campus as a full-time student 
  • Have a GPA of at least 4.0. If you are a commencing student, your GPA for your undergraduate program can be considered 

How to apply 

  • You will need to submit a personal statement describing your academic achievements, career aspirations and how this scholarship would help you.  
  • You will also need to upload 3 documents to demonstrate your academic achievements.
